The General Information Catalog contains extensive rules regarding the administration final examinations.
The catalog also addresses the reexamination petition under its section on assigning incompletes. It's unusual for students to invoke this policy, so it may be that many faculty are unaware of it. If a student has received an average of at least a C- going into a final and then fails the final, s/he may request an incomplete in order to retake the final. The instructor may deny the request. If the request is granted and the student receives at least a C- on the final, that grade replaces the original final exam grade in determining the course grade. If the student makes less than a C-, a grade of F is recorded for the course.
